GRADE : A

So how many people are good at remembering anniversary dates??  Dream Theater didn't forget theirs In fact, Mike even eluded to it in an interview 2 years ago!

On this night in Los Angeles was a special night marking the 15th anniversary of When Dream and Day Unite's release in North America.  The band was beyond pumped for this show, delivering a powerful performance.  This show is being offered to members of Grateful Dreams as a 'perfect' companion to the Official Bootleg release of the WDADU set scheduled for the near future.

The show starts with the tour flagsong of As I Am, with a powerful deliverance.  The voice of James LaBrie is overwhemingly solid with the band doing what they do best behind him....playing flawlessly.  After As I Am, they immediately jump into This Dying Soul with aggressive playing and performace, enough to activate anyone's pacemaker.  Moving right along, we get into Beyond This Life with the extended improv section.  Of all the shows I have heard, this was the longest and most interesting improv I've heard from this tour, showcasing the ever evolving dual between Rudess and Petrucci with Portnoy and Myung easily balancing the attack alongside of them.  A truely entertaining moment early in the show!  Afterwards, getting a much needed break, the band performs Through Her Eyes with James emitting vocal perfection on the lighter side of singing.  Now the roller-coaster begins moving again as we move into Endless Sacrifice and then Caught In A Web.  After that begins one of my all-time favorites, Hollow Years.  Yes, you all know how I feel about this song; the condensed version - amazing guitar, amazing guitar solo, LaBrie shouts 'John Petrucci' after the solo, the goosebumps emerge once again.  Next song.  :)  We now hit the climax of the first set with War Inside My Head and The Test That Stumped Them All as far as force is concerned.  Mike Portnoy delivering a barrarge of drumming attack, with the fingers of Myung, Petrucci, and Rudess just a blur on the screen, and LaBrie in top form belting out the vocals.  Ending the first set was In The Name of God.  For those who have gone to any of the shows this tour, just listening to this song and watching the video being played behind the band will just leave you in awe.  The band really hit home with thought and emotion going into the playing of this song.  It is a truely overwhelming experience.  Now comes the end of the first set.  The fans received a truely incredible performance, but, this was just the first set.............

There is only one error present in this recording:

On disc 2, track 1 (Endless Sacrifice), diginoise is present from 5:29 - 5:30.  This was present on the original DAT Master.

This is an excellent sounding show.  Grading this show on a curve from bootlegs in my collection, I give this show an A.
